HUMAN SPACES FOR PLANETARY CARE
A map of the places where people, communities and the planet can belong together. In Vienna.
What makes a place feel like you belong?
Maybe it is the café where nobody questions who you came with.
The bar where you can be loud, strange, soft or yourself.
The park where you can breathe.
The cultural space where someone remembers your name.
The community kitchen where food, stories and resources are shared.
Or simply a place where you notice that someone has thought about who gets to be there and how.
Human Spaces for Planetary Care is a collective project mapping the everyday places in Vienna where belonging, inclusion and care for the planet meet. We are creating a living, digital map of cafés, bars, parks, cultural spaces and other everyday places, seen through migrant, queer and feminist perspectives.
Not a ranking.
Not a guide to the "best" places.
A collective invitation to notice what makes a space
feel more caring, accessible, inclusive and sustainable.

Climate justice is not only about emissions, targets and energy. It is also about how we live together.
-
Who has access to green spaces?
-
Who gets to feel safe in public?
-
Who can afford to participate in city life?
-
Whose knowledge shapes decisions?
-
Who is welcomed into a space, and who is expected to adapt?
The climate crisis does not affect everyone equally. And neither does the city.
For us, planetary care begins close to home: in the places we share, the relationships we build and the choices we make about how resources, space and care are distributed.
Caring for the planet also means caring about the conditions in which people can belong.
belonging is planetary
where do you feel you belong
We want to hear from you. Tell us about a place in Vienna where you felt belonging.
It could be a café, a park, a library, a bar, a cultural centre, a community garden, a shop, a street corner. Anywhere that has made you feel welcome, safe, seen, connected or cared for.
And tell us what made it feel that way.
Maybe it was the people.
Maybe it was accessibility.
Maybe it was how the space dealt with waste.
Maybe someone challenged discrimination when it happened.
Maybe there was affordable food.
Maybe you could come alone.
Maybe you could bring your child.
Maybe you could simply exist without having to explain yourself.
SUGGEST A PLACE! You could become part of our map.
We are building a digital map of Vienna together with the people who live, move, gather and find belonging here.
The map will bring together at least 30 everyday spaces and the stories, practices and intentions behind them. We will explore questions such as:
🌱 How does this place think about resources, waste and energy?
♿ Who can access it?
🏳️🌈 How does it create safer space for queer people and other marginalized communities?
🌍 How does it engage with migrant and local communities?
🤝 How are people treated here?
🥕 Where do its resources come from?
💬 What does care look like in practice?
We are interested in small things as much as big things:
* A reusable cup system *A gender-neutral toilet * A ramp *Affordable food *Local suppliers * A safer-space policy *A place to rest * A decision made collectively *Someone noticing who isn't in the room.
Caring for the planet also means caring about the conditions in which people can belong.
