Working towards a more inclusive society
The lack of inclusion, and the lack of integration are two of the main reasons in societies for isolation, anger and violence. This is where Civic Initiatives Austria aims to act and inspire. With initiatives and events in Austria that:

celebrate diversity, differences, human rights, and common grounds

create safe spaces for inclusive communities, new dialogues and new ideas for change

contribute to a more inclusive society in Austria, with expats from the Balkan but also other regions
-
contribute to more inclusive societies in the countries of origin, with influence, ideas and action organized by expat communities.

Milestones till

Form and grow a community of expats that actively contributes to CIA initiatives;

10+ online and offline events for co-creating safe spaces for expats to connect and exchange on specific topics;

Partner up with 5+ organizations promoting and standing up an inclusive society in Austria and wider if needed;

Find and design a safe and inclusive Homebase for expat engagement (community center);

Support an inclusive language within the community and as well as right relationships

Introduce the cross-culture festival Miredita, dobar dan in Austria (open for public).
Our Story starts in ...
... in a Kafana in Belgrade, Serbia. Members of the team working in Civic Initiatives (one of Serbia's largest human rights organizations) understood and felt the strong need to offer safe spaces for expats around conflicts and challenges that affect expats equally as locals - just with the difference that they live abroad. Together, with long term collaboration partner HearbeatsInCo, who is based in Vienna, Austria, the idea Civic Initiatives Austria was soon realized - ready to take action in Austria to work towards a more inclusive society - in countries of origin, as well as in Austria.
